The Visconti-Sforza decks are Tarot decks dating back to the 15th century which in all probability gave rise to the classic decks and in particular to the Marseille variant from which most of the modern Tarot derives.

The decks are of great historical and artistic interest, due to the beauty of their illustrations made with precious materials and which, in some cases, are believed to portray members of the Visconti and Sforza families, and socio-cultural, due to the link with the two dynasties that ruled Milan and Lombardy from the 13th century onwards[1].

According to Stuart Kaplan, scholar and tarot collector, there are about 15 different decks of the Visconti-Sforza group scattered in museums and libraries around the world, but also in private collections; of some of them there are only a few pictures or single cards left.

I mazzi Visconti-Sforza sono mazzi di Tarocchi risalenti al XV secolo che hanno dato, con ogni probabilità, origine ai mazzi classici e in particolare alla variante marsigliese dalla quale deriva gran parte dei Tarocchi moderni.

I mazzi sono di grande interesse sia storico, sia artistico, per la bellezza delle loro illustrazioni realizzate con materiali preziosi e che, in alcuni casi, si ritiene ritraggano membri delle famiglie Visconti e Sforza, sia socio-culturale, per il legame con le due dinastie che governarono Milano e la Lombardia a partire dal XIII secolo.

Secondo Stuart Kaplan, studioso e collezionista di tarocchi, esistono circa 15 mazzi diversi del gruppo Visconti-Sforza disseminati in musei e biblioteche di tutto il mondo, ma anche in collezioni private; di alcuni di essi sono rimaste solamente alcune figure o singole carte.
