Tarot of Marseille: The Hermit
Share
WHO IS THE HERMIT, ARCANUM 9 OF THE TAROT OF MARSEILLE?
The Hermit, card number 9 of the Tarot de Marseille, represents an elderly man leaning on a staff.
The three wrinkles on his forehead form a pyramid facing the sky, a symbol of the spirituality of this man who appears to be guided by great inner strength.
In his right hand, the man holds a lamp, which illuminates the path and casts a halo of light. The staff is light in color, a sign that the spiritual path that leads to self-discovery is accessible to ordinary mortals.
The man seems driven by a profound search, an element that gives this arcane a very marked occult dimension.
INTERPRETATION OF THE CHARTER
In operation
The Hermit reveals great wisdom and maturity that allow him to reflect on his own existence. He displays sobriety and discretion: he seems insensitive to the gaze of others, and the importance of his inner exploration inspires great respect in others.
Not in operation
His shyness is such that he lives in seclusion, far from a society of which he is not a part and which frightens him.
He is a misanthrope and can be guilty of greed, as he tries to keep the material goods he has for himself, so he can remain secluded as long as possible and limit any type of social relationship as much as possible.
Research thus becomes sterile and its isolation futile.
