Tarot of Marseille: The Hanged Man

WHO IS THE HANGED MAN, ARCANUM 12 OF THE TAROT DE MARSEILLE?
The Hanged Man is card number 12 of the Tarot de Marseille: it is a reversed card.

In fact, the character is hanging from a tree by his feet and with his head down: his hands are then tied behind his back.

The Hanged Man could very well be dead, but, despite this, his face is incredibly serene and confident: he seems to be waiting for something, he is stuck in a very delicate situation.

The character feels completely helpless; he's disconnected from reality, his feet are no longer on the ground.

INTERPRETATION OF THE CHARTER
In operation
The Hanged Man is a generous character, capable of sacrificing himself for others.
He demonstrates great empathy and acts in a completely selfless manner: he is capable of giving himself completely without expecting anything in return.
He's a nice person, a very human person.

Not in operation
The Hanged Man has difficulty taking action and tends to be too cerebral and unrealistic. Many of his projects remain unfulfilled, many commitments never reach their deadline, and promises are broken: with this behavior, the Hanged Man can often disappoint those around him.
