The Planets: The Meaning of the Sun in Astrology

The Sun, the center of everything
In astrology, the Sun is the first and also one of the most important planets in the solar system. The Sun is the center of everything, not only in Astrology : in this ancient discipline, the luminary (not considered a planet) is simply the King of the Horoscope. There are no other definitions, just as it might be considered, in astronomy, the king of our system, called "solar."
In astrology, the Sun defines who we are: a person with the Sun in Aries is impulsive, while someone with the Sun in Cancer will be more sensitive and delicate. Those with the Sun in Capricorn will display a more rigid, responsible, and serious personality, and so on.
It follows that the position of the Sun defines our personality: the Sun represents the conscious self, the rational part of us, the side that makes plans, commits itself, acts, and works to achieve goals…
The Sun allows you to assert yourself, to achieve your goals, to stand out, to be recognized, to obtain recognition. Depending on its position, it will have a certain type of influence. What is certain is that the Sun he will always maintain his desire to shine, to feel unique, to unleash his energy, to reveal himself as the absolute center.
The Sun Inside Us
No matter how insecure we may be, no matter how dark our personality may be, we keep a little Sun inside us that sooner or later will want to come out. It doesn't matter if we're ugly or beautiful, smart or stupid, rich or poor... deep down inside, we feel unique and special. We probably realize that others haven't noticed our absolute importance, our central role, but deep down, we know we are the true heroes of this story.
Even the most unfortunate of the unfortunate holds within themselves the certainty of being absolutely unique and heroic in their development, in their evolution. The secret story of their life would make it clear to everyone that the true center of everything is themselves, the unfortunate hero who shines among their peers.
This happens thanks to the presence of the Sun within us, which pushes us higher, which makes us look at our lives from a different perspective, even an unrealistic one: this is because it is typical of the Sun to overdramatize a little, to aim straight for melodrama, and to resort to acting. As a king, image is important, and it is therefore necessary to make oneself interesting at all costs.
When you find yourself with a particularly exuberant person, trying to get noticed, who seems willing to swallow even a sharp sword to stand out, know that it's their Sun unleashing itself! The hero within them, whom you share, wants to be recognized: viewing the situation this way, you'll be more inclined to be forgiving rather than critical and condemnatory. This isn't a vain, self-important person who "shows off," but someone who is feeling the influence of their Sun, just like you.
The Sun It represents the human being in the public and social sphere, and it's important for everyone to be able to stand out in society, to assert themselves, to say: this is me. It's an ancestral need to shout to the whole world: "Here I am!", which we can all understand.
How the Sun Works
To understand how the Sun works, and its preeminent role, we can continue with the royal analogy: it is in fact the king who must learn to govern his kingdom, that is, the natal chart, and then begin his campaign of conquest in order to achieve his goals.
In this war he is aided by brave knights who support him and show him the utmost respect: we are obviously referring to the planets.
It is worth noting that the planets, who are knights in the service of the Sun King, in reality, just like in every legend of this type, sometimes prove unfaithful and begin to row against him, to plot in the dark and even to make various claims.
The planets, as we will see in subsequent articles, have different personalities and, although they tend to recognize their king, they pursue dreams and desires different from those of the king, in some cases even aiming for objectives that prove to be obstacles to the Sun's plans. One could perhaps speak of betrayal.
In certain cases, the king will have to change his plans precisely because of the action of a planet, his knight. In these cases, the Sun He will have to prove himself a truly skilled monarch, capable of reshaping his plans, modifying his objectives, and maintaining his enthusiasm. Only in this way will he inspire even greater admiration in all his subjects: when the Sun triumphs, it is a celebration for everyone.
What does the Sun represent?
We have seen above, in a simple and slightly romanticized way (just as the Sun itself would like), what its function, its role and its aptitudes are, but now let's try to better understand what the Sun's meaning is on a symbolic level.
This luminary, the absolute center of our world, clearly symbolizes the paternal figure. We need to be clear about this: the Sun he is the father, the leader, the king, the hero, the male, the husband.
It's important to remember that when discussing symbolism, we can't remain stuck with literal translations: when we talk about male, we're not talking about males and females; we're not in the realm of biology. Just as when we consider the word "husband," it shouldn't be understood in the strict sense of a marriage between a man and a woman.
Symbols are always a reduction of something greater, a synthesis, an extract. The Sun, therefore, refers us to the broader concept of a good father, a good husband, a capable king, an effective administrator, a leader whose power is unquestionable. It therefore best represents the masculine polarity, its energy that drives him to action, to pursue goals aimed at expansion, good management, growth, and conquest.
