I Pianeti: Il ruolo di Urano nell’Astrologia

The Planets: The Role of Uranus in Astrology

Uranus, the ice giant

Uranus is a planet named after Cronus' father, Saturn, and was therefore the paternal grandfather of Zeus, Jupiter. Uranus was the first planet discovered by a telescope.

From the perspective of esoteric numerology, this planet is linked to the number 12, the perfect number, the number that marks the end of the cycle. There were 12 apostles, 12 months in a year, 12 zodiac signs, 12 knights of the Round Table...

Let's understand more about it below.

The planet Uranus

Uranus and Neptune have a similar yet different composition than Jupiter and Saturn, which is why astronomers call them the “ice giants,” given the large presence of ices such as water, ammonia, methane, and other hydrocarbons.

Its atmosphere reaches 224°C, making it the coldest planet in the solar system.

It was not even on purpose that this planet was discovered by William Herschel in 1781, just a few years before the French Revolution that shook the entire world: in astrology, Uranus is considered the planet of revolution.

Uranus in mythology

Greek mythology places Uranus at the beginning, as the primordial deity, the personification of Heaven. According to the tradition reported by Hesiod, Uranus united with Gaea, or Earth, and impregnated her with raindrops: from this union were born the Titans, the Cyclopes, and the Hecatonchires.

Uranus's greatest fear was being overthrown by one of his sons, who proved powerful. To prevent this eventuality, he threw his newborn children into Tartarus, the depths of the Earth, or rather, into the bowels of Gaea herself.

The latter began to despise her husband for such cruelty and forged an adamantine sickle which she gave to the last of the twelve Titans: Cronus. Just as Uranus was about to make love to Gaea, her son Cronus entered and castrated him with the sickle.

The genitals were thrown into the sea and from them a foam was born which gave birth to Aphrodite, while the drops of blood that fell on the earth gave birth to the Erinyes, the Giants and the Melian Nymphs.

Uranus in the Zodiac

This planet takes 84 years to complete its entire journey around the Zodiac and has a very precise and fascinating mechanism: it covers the evolutionary cycle of the human being by following the aspects of Saturn on itself that occur every seven years.

We therefore have a passage on the 12 Archetypes which leads to the operation: 12×7 = 84.

Uranus in the Natal Chart

When you have Uranus in your birth chart, it should be interpreted as the energy of the present that frees you from the past, that distances you from old concepts, the act of will that shuffles the cards on the table, the sudden choice, the rapid change, the clean cut, even violent.

What does Uranus represent in astrology?

Uranus symbolizes intuition, witnesses flashes of genius, sudden inspirations, openness to everything that is outside the norm, to what is unknown and a little mysterious.

This planet is associated with manual skills, technical abilities, organizational abilities, and decision-making. We could compare Uranus to Venus in this sense: Venus rules the arts and the expression of harmony and beauty, just as Uranus rules the practical, mechanical, and utilitarian sense.

It also represents the immediate solution, the brilliant intuition, the flash of genius just as Mars represents quick reflexes, at a muscular level.

The position of Uranus and its various aspects with the other planets tells us a lot about how the native will achieve his goals, through which tools and abilities he will reach his goal.

We must also consider the possibility that the tools are used in a self-destructive or otherwise self-harming way, when transits linked to Uranus are considered difficult.

Uranus and esoteric numerology

The planet Uranus, seen in the light of a comprehensive esoteric interpretation, therefore taking into account astrology, mythology and esoteric numerology, must be considered the planet of revolution, rebellion, nonconformism, originality and extravagance.

It is the very symbol of sudden and unexpected change, but also of the famous sixth sense and of everything that can be considered mystical and transcendental.

Uranus is therefore very important because it brings with it a new way of looking at things, a new awareness, an expanding consciousness.

We are not talking about a planet friendly to the status quo, but rather of everything that is original, cutting-edge, and also of all new inventions, technologies, and future events.

Uranus is a planet that breaks with tradition and wants to create something new, and its key words are all centered on this revolutionary aspect, eager to create a new and free state.

There is no superficiality in Uranus: it is a planet that pushes us towards bizarre, unconventional behaviors and utopian actions, but there is always a great depth of purpose guided by a strong creativity and a well-rooted and noble concept of freedom.
