I Pianeti: il ruolo di Giove in Astrologia

The Planets: Jupiter's Role in Astrology

Jupiter, the planet of justice and balance.

Jupiter it's the fifth planet of the Solar System in terms of distance from the Sun, but it is the largest overall. Suffice it to say that its mass corresponds to almost 2,500 times the mass of all the other planets combined.

This gas giant of space has a composition similar to that of the Sun : hydrogen and helium, with small amounts of ammonia, methane, water, and other components.

This colossus is thought to have a solid core, probably rocky. Curiously, Jupiter emits three times more energy than it receives from the Sun.

This planet has been known since ancient times and has been studied, admired, loved, and venerated for millennia. In many cultures, it has represented the pinnacle of deities: for the Greeks, Romans, and Babylonians above all.

It is no coincidence that its representation, from an astronomical point of view, is that of a stylization of the god's lightning: the main weapon of Jupiter seen as a classical deity.

Mythology related to Jupiter

According to mythology, in the beginning there was only Chaos, from which emerged Gaia, or Earth. She gave birth to Uranus, or Heaven. Earth and Heaven, Gaia and Uranus, united and gave birth to 18 children, including Rhea and Cronus, brother and sister, who married each other and castrated Uranus, taking away his power. Cronus and Rhea bore several children, including the last, Zeus, or Jupiter .

Cronus feared his children, suspecting they would suffer the same fate he had inflicted on his father, so he ate them as soon as they were born. But Rhea hid her youngest from Cronus through subterfuge. Once he had grown up, far from his father, Zeus wanted to take over his father's power, and by dissolving a drug in a drink, he stunned Cronus, who regurgitated Zeus's siblings whom he had devoured in the past: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon. Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus attacked Cronus and the Titans, thanks also to the release of the Cyclopes and Hecatonchires, whom Cronus had imprisoned in Tartarus.

This, in short, is the story of the birth of the power of Jupiter , his rise to the role of the principal deity of antiquity. It is noteworthy that he is a god of the sky and lightning who fertilized the earth through rain. He is therefore not a creator god, since he himself was created, but a father god, leader, guide, protector. His symbols are the oak, the bull, the eagle, and, above all, the thunderbolt.

Jupiter in Astrology

In the astrological field we find many characteristics of Jupiter , both from a physical and mythological point of view: astrology in fact collects within itself all the characteristics of what it observes.

Jupiter represents the Force of Expansion and takes about 12 years to complete its journey around the Zodiac, nearly a year for each sign. In this sense, Jupiter symbolically represents trust, wealth, prosperity, fortune, and expansion.

From the perspective of human anatomy and physiology, Jupiter is traditionally associated with the mouth, throat, tongue, eyes, arterial circulation, and the pituitary gland. Its domicile is in the signs of Sagittarius and Pisces, while its detriment is in Virgo and Gemini.

Its exaltation occurs in the sign of Taurus, while its fall is in Scorpio. Its dark side, its "negative" side, is linked to materialism, hedonism, and an annoying paternalistic attitude.

Jupiter It's everything that grows and develops: every process of this kind—of maturation, of positive integration, of self-realization, of proactive, confident, and optimistic action—can easily be attributed to Jupiter. Its beneficial energies are brought by Jupiter to all the other planets, which immediately benefit from this influence.

It's important to note that the enrichment symbolically represented by Jupiter, its expansion, should not be viewed solely from a material perspective, but also from a spiritual, moral, and philosophical one. Subtle energies are extremely important for living a happy life, and Jupiter expands these as well: it bestows health, serenity, inner peace, sensitivity, and the ability to live in harmony and with a sense of fulfillment.

This important planet is closely linked to the development of language and speech (in fact, it is also connected to the mouth and tongue), but also to the philosophical search for individual meaning and purpose.

It is undoubtedly also connected to optimism, trust, hope, a sense of justice, a philosophy of life, the ability to enjoy what one perceives, aspiration, individual growth, and wealth.

Basically where there is Jupiter We find abundance, fertility, good opportunities, legality, religion, moral and spiritual elevation. It's no coincidence that a person with a proactive, optimistic character and who knows how to enjoy life is described as "jovial."

Jupiter's flow invites us to ignore details, to focus on concrete matters, on true growth, and to avoid wasting time on trivialities that aren't particularly important in a developmental journey. This planet opens our eyes, inviting us to focus on a perspective, to gaze at a broad horizon, to raise our heads and look far into the distance.

From the point of view of the elements we can say that Jupiter In Water signs, it instills self-confidence and optimism, thus having a profound effect on their emotional state. In Earth signs, it instills concreteness and solidity, helping them rediscover the importance of commitment and discipline in everything they do. Air signs in Jupiter continue to need a push, reassurance, and affirmation. For Fire signs, Jupiter brings energy and positivity that allow them to overcome obstacles and leave their problems behind.

It is interesting to note that Jupiter despite its undoubted positivity, its auspicious aspects, it should not be considered the "planet of luck ”, but rather the “planet of justice and balance”, and in fact it plays a fundamental role in achieving what is right and in harmony with the objectives that reside in our fibres from birth.
