Astrology vs. Horoscope: What are the differences?
Share
Let us start by underlining the linguistic difference between the two terms: “ Astrology ” comes from the ancient Greek (ἀστρολογία) and means astrologhía = aster / astròs [star] + logia [speech], while “ Horoscope ” is a Latin term ( hōroscopus – coming from the Greek ὡροσκόπος hōroskópos , composed of ὥρα (hṓra), duration of time, and σκοπέω (skopéō), to observe.
It is clear that in its astrological meaning, the word “ Horoscope ” means “interpretation of the stars at the exact moment in which an event occurs” and is intended to mean the reading of the planetary positions in the astral sky according to the astrological perspective.
But here we want to understand it in a less orthodox way and more centered on the mass media factor which must be given importance to the extent that the term Horoscope could be misunderstood.
The classic " Horoscope of the Day" seen by a television viewer, having a form of entertainment (while respecting the discipline of astrology, but without thereby going into depth), has a purely "informative" value and is devoid of any commitment, which arouses the curiosity of the listener, perhaps for those few minutes of leisure/free time that a person rightly desires to carve out for themselves.
But Astrology (with a capital A) has nothing to do with all this: true Astrology is central, basic, empirical and deals with the study of the person/event, with general and in-depth predictions on a large scale and to a large extent.
True Astrology is a concrete science (although it currently falls outside the classical dictates of "science" according to official science, since it does not meet the criteria of scientificity), it is a unique discipline that includes several sub-branches aimed at discovering the true essence of the human being, his origin, his development, his psychology, his problems and therefore all the internal and external mechanisms that dominate man and his life on earth.
Astrology is a science in itself, which does not take as reference models those of other sciences such as psychology, philosophy, sociology, nor does it wish to approach them, despite the numerous attempts by some Italian astrologers to label it with terms such as "Humanistic", "Esoteric", "Karmic" and so on.
Astrology is One and has the objective of studying the often complex dynamics that manifest themselves on Earth in relation to planetary influences, with the aim of discovering what, and how many, correspondences there may be and taking into consideration a very important principle that underlies Astrology itself, the Principle of Synchronicity (principle of causal connections) which consists of a link between two events that occur simultaneously, connected to each other but not in a causal manner, that is, not in such a way that one materially influences the other: they would rather belong to the same context or significant content, like two clocks that have been synchronized to the same time (see related literature).
According to this principle, in fact, there seems to be a sort of correspondence between psyche and material.
Astrology is expressed through planetary archetypes, that is, astrological symbols imbued with a unique and universal meaning, a single meaning for each archetype. Each archetype has its own shape, its own color, its own "vibrational emanation" that brings it into "resonance" with the other elements it comes into contact with.
Depending on the nature of the archetype (as well as its angular position), it can form a “good” contact and therefore work/collaborate profitably and peacefully with the other archetypes, or form a “bad” contact and therefore work/collaborate in a less profitably and more heavily manner.
In any case, the work of the archetypes, alone or in a group, creates the right conditions for events to occur and for the destiny of the person/event to be fulfilled.
